Llandudno’s phone service is so poor that tourists are put off visiting
A popular seaside town in is putting holidaymakers off due to a huge problem that seemingly gets worse at the height of Summer.
Llandudno is a go-to destination for UK staycations. However, visitors all have the same complaint – the town’s digital infrastructure.
Phone service in the area is so poor that locals have reported not being able to make a simple phone call, , with businesses struggling to operate due to online transactions failing and websites not being updated.
Mobile giants are under increasing pressure to resolve the issue after years of frustration. Despite other parts of the country seeing significant improvements to phone services, Llandudno is trailing behind.
The problem gets rapidly worse in the Summer tourism season when an influx of visitors descend on the town. Local mobile networks become overloaded leaving people unable to use their phones.

The visitor economy is also affected as holidaymakers are left unable to search where to eat, shop or travel too.
Jon Merrick, from Llandudno landowner Mostyn Estates, said that he had attended two meetings with EE and Vodafone which had been organised by the local Senedd member – with “positive” updates on the situation.
He wrote on a forum that Vodafone are in the process of erecting a mast on a building in the town although they didn’t give the exact location of this site.
Mr Merrick added that an offer had been made for them to use the car park at the Victoria shopping centre due to its central location.

The local said that Vodafone are planning to review this but are also looking for two further sites in Llandudno.
This could see customers could finally start to see much needed improvements in 4G services before long.
Mr Merrick explained of his positive meeting with EE too as the mobile phone company said that they were looking at smaller sites for three or four masts which they hope to have in place for Summer 2025.
This means by the peak season next year the town could finally have digital infrastructure to deal with the annual influx of visitors.
