Strictly Come Dancing’s Anton du Beke hints Pete Wicks won’t make final

Pete Wicks and Jowita Przystal gave their all in the semi-final, wowing with an Argentine Tango to Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve and a Foxtrot to Bobby Darin’s Beyond The Sea, racking up a combined total of 65 points across both dances.

After Pete’s final performance, judge Anton du Beke dropped an intriguing hint about his potential departure, leaving fans pondering his future on the dance floor.

Anton praised Pete’s journey, saying: “Can I just say this, what a semi-final this has been? Congratulations, everyone has all been amazing.

“I’m so proud of you because you’ve stuck at it. You’ve talked about week one and going through. You said in your VT, you’re not the best dancer in the competition and that may be the case, we’ll let other people decide.”

The judge remarked on Pete’s determination and growth: “I don’t think anyone tries harder than you, no one has been more committed than you, no one has thought, ‘listen, I’m going to keep going and keep giving it my best.'”

He noted Pete’s improvement: “You’ve got to grow within yourself, you’ve got to improve within yourself and you’ve improved enormously.”

Highlighting Pete’s progress, Anton added: “I thought that was a super dance. All the stuff I wanted you to do in hold, you did finally on your last dance of the series. Well, unless you make the final of course.”

Pete, surprised, retorted: “Do you know something I don’t?” to which Anton responded playfully: “Who can say? Listen, that was your best dance of the series, well done you.”

In a touching post after the semi-final, reflected on his journey and hailed the Argentine Tango as his favourite dance, reports . He shared a clip of their performance with the message: “My favourite dance of my mad little journey… what will be, will be.”

Before the semi-final kicked off, Ladbrokes put their bets on being the next to exit the competition with odds at 1/2. Hot on his heels was with odds of 5/2, while both and had odds standing at 12/1.

However, alongside Dianne Buswell remains the hot favourite for the Glitterball Trophy, boasting impressive odds of 2/9. Alex Apati from Ladbrokes commented, “Chris has headed the betting pretty much from day one this series; it’ll take something pretty spectacular to stop him at this point.”

The bookmakers implied Wicks might have reached the limit of his luck, with Apati noting: “Pete’s already defied the odds by making it this far, but the latest odds suggest Sunday night will be the end of the road for him.”
