Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s pal gives honest response to their move to the USA

Tyler Perry, the filmmaker known for his roles in Hollywood hits from “Star Trek” to “PAW Patrol: The Movie” and creator of the Madea franchise, is recognised in the UK primarily as a close confidant of and .

Not only does he hold the title of godfather to Princess Lilibet, but he also generously offered his Beverly Hills mansion to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when they first relocated to the US in 2020 after stepping down as senior

However, Perry admits that he didn’t feel the need to give the couple advice on their bold move from the UK. Speaking to the Sunday Times, he stated simply: “I didn’t.”

He went on: “Meghan is from California. She knows California well. So there was nothing to prepare them for.”

Perry has also commented on the public’s relentless curiosity about the couple, saying: “What I learnt about mentioning them – because there’s this insatiable appetite to know all about them?”

Dismissing speculation about any discord between Harry and Meghan, he told E! News: “They love each other,” adding, “They have a beautiful family and I just want the best for them.”

Despite feeling “honoured” to be asked to be Princess Lilibet’s godfather, reports , Perry had one or two reservations.

He recalled “I called them back and said, ‘Uh, hold on a second…does this mean we gotta go over [to the UK] and do all of that in church with [the Royal Family], and figure all that out? ‘Cause I don’t wanna do that’.”

Instead, he proposed a more casual approach: “Maybe we can do a little private ceremony here [in the USA] and let that be that, and if you have to do it there, then that’s OK.'”
