Oscar Piastri spoke with Max Verstappen after the chequered flag

The Dutchman, who started from fourth on the grid, lunged down the inside of Piastri at Turn One on Sunday, tagging the driver and sending both of them into a spin. From here, the Australian could only recover to P10, but his team still went on to claim the Constructors’ Championship title.
Speaking to Sky Sports F1 about the incident, Piastri said: “Probably yes [the move was too optimistic]. But he came and apologised straight away and the stewards deemed it was a penalty.
“We go again next year. Obviously, it was a tough race from then on, but again, we achieved our main target and that’s what matters.”
Verstappen offered his thoughts too, explaining: “I didn’t want to crash with Oscar, but I couldn’t avoid a touch. For me, the most important thing was to apologize to him.”

Max Verstappen apologised immediately for his clash
Verstappen, who picked up a 10-second time penalty for the contact, will be relieved that his miscalculated lunge didn’t cost the Constructors’ Championship title.

For Piastri, attention now turns to the 2025 Drivers’ Championship title fight. “Definitely,” he professed. “Hopefully, we can come out of the blocks strong next season and mount a challenge from the start.
“I still have so things to work on and improve but feel it’s been a good step up from my rookie season. Excited for next year, and the break first, then try and fight for both championships”.
