Countryfile Margherita Taylor’s unexpected London upbringing as she teases major move

’s Margherita Taylor is well-recognised on screens after her start in broadcasting in the early 90s.

She made her TV debut on s T4 alongside and Vernon Kay.

The presenter then contributed to , , and and covered the competition on ITV.

However, viewers saw Margherita’s new side when she began fronting in 2016 until her departure in 2022.

While the 52-year-old’s career has played out on TV, she has remained tight-lipped about her personal life.

with Sarah Barratt, Margherita opened up about her childhood in London, which unexpectedly sparked her interest in the countryside.

Reflecting on her earlier years, the TV star reflected: “I grew up on the edge of Croydon. It was a surprisingly green upbringing, though.

“In one direction was the city, but, in the other, the rolling Surrey Hills. The local woodland was my playground – I’d be outdoors for hours and get home just in time for tea.”

She shared: “On my walk to school, I’d pass the farm and grazing land, so even as a child, I appreciated the countryside.”

Looking to the future, Margherita was asked if she would trade the busy London city for a quieter life in the countryside.

The presenter admitted: “All the time! When I’m filming Escape to the Country, I fall in love with each area I visit.

“I always want to buy at least one of the houses. There are times I think ‘If you’re not going to take this one, I wish I could,’”

Margherita teased: “One day I’ll end up doing it.”
