If you struggle to get to in the evenings, it can really affect how you are the next day – both mentally and physically.
There’s nothing more annoying than tossing and turning for hours on end, unable to switch off, or waking up in the night and failing to get back to sleep.
And while it’s so important to follow a good sleep hygiene, such as avoiding before bed, there are a few other tips that can help you to drift off easier.
According to Alex Biggart of , certain can promote feelings of relaxation, so adding them into your bedroom can work wonders on your sleep routine.
Here are six low-maintenance choices that Alex recommends for a better night’s sleep.

Pineapple plant
Many of us try to make our bedrooms a cosy and peaceful place to give ourselves the best chances of good quality sleep.
And the pineapple plant can be great at promoting a restful atmosphere, according to Alex.
He said: “Pineapple plants need a nice sunny spot in a warm room. If you have a windowsill that gets a few hours of sunlight a day, it would be perfect.”
Mother-in-law’s tongue
Mother-in-law’s tongue, also known as a snake plant, may look sharp but its gentle green hues make it a great addition to the bedroom.
Alex said: “Mother-in-law’s tongue, or the sansevieria plant, is hardy and requires minimal upkeep. It thrives in a warm environment so a bedroom would be ideal.
“It’s also compact enough to keep on your bedside table.”

Orchid
Tall and elegant orchids with their long-lasting blooms are an indoor plant favourite – and they can thrive in bedrooms.
Alex said: “Orchids like fairly humid environments and bright but not direct sunlight. Place your plant on a surface such as a dressing table where you can admire it as you drift off.”
Pothos
Plants with rounded leaves such as the pothos have been shown in studies to promote relaxation and boost wellbeing.
Alex said: “Pothos plants are beautiful so it’s no surprise research has shown how they can improve indoor environments. They are also really easy to care for.
“A pothos can be left to trail with its abundant leaves or can be trained to climb. I like to hang them in a planter and allow the leaves to cascade down.”

Lavender
Well known for promoting feelings of calm, lavender is a must-have addition to the bedroom.
Alex said: “While a lavender plant is unlikely to thrive indoors as it needs a lot of sunlight, you can take cuttings from an outdoor plant, dry it and use it around the home.
“It can also be used in essential oils around the bedroom to help create an oasis of calm.”
Spider plant
Alex said: “Plants that look green and healthy will provide the most benefits, so choose ones suited to your space that are easy to maintain.
“Spider plants need moderate light conditions and occasional watering, making them really easy to care for.
“With its grass-like foliage, most spider plants won’t take up too much space so are nice for even the cosiest of bedrooms.”
