A recent television series, dubbed as the ‘most binge-worthy show’ of the year, is available to stream now on Apple TV+.
Drops of God has also achieved the enviable feat of securing a flawless 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
It’s being celebrated as one of the many hidden treasures exclusively found on the tech giant’s streaming platform.
Over the course of eight episodes, audiences see Camille, the daughter of Alexandre Leger, the creator of the renowned Leger Wine Guide.
Following his death, she travels to Tokyo and uncovers that he has bequeathed her his remarkable wine collection in his will.
Camille has to compete against her late father’s ‘spiritual son’
Don’t miss…
This comes as a surprise given that she hasn’t seen her father since her parents split up when she was a child. However, to lay claim to her unexpected inheritance, she must compete against her late father’s young protege, Issei Tomine, who was considered Alexandre’s spiritual son.
A multilingual production, it featues French and Japanese as well as English. It is an adaptation of the New York Times bestselling Japanese manga series of the same name, created and penned by the award-winning Tadashi Agi, with artwork by Shu Okimoto, reports .
Since its release last year, the series continues to captivate new fans who wonder why more haven’t seen it yet. One fan confessed that their attempts to persuade others to watch the show left them feeling like a ‘nutter’.
The show is hailed as one of the most ‘binge worthy’
They admitted: “Trying to tell people how complex and satisfying it is made me feel like a conspiracy nutter raving in front of a pinboard covered in red string.”
Another critic drew parallels with the success of ‘s Queen’s Gambit and Pixar’s Ratatouille, praising the show’s ability to transform an ostensibly non-competitive industry into a riveting drama.
“The show somehow manages to take what seems like a non-competitive industry (at least to those of us who are wine illiterate) and turn it into a high stakes emotionally complex drama. It visualizes wine flavors in a live action Ratatouille-esque way.”
Drops of God has been met with equal fervour from viewers, with one declaring: “Just brilliant, unique, riveting and one of the most binge-worthy shows of the year. I have recommended it to so many people and each one thanks me effusively.”
Amidst the buzz, one viewer expressed surprise at the lack of media attention, stating: “One of the best things I have seen in sometime. Why it is not getting more press is beyond me. Great plot, story. Maybe because of the subtitles people are not flocking to it. So much better than One Day.”
