As the temperature gets colder it is important to make sure your radiators are working at full capacity, and there is one easy job you can do to ensure you stay warm.

Making sure your radiators are  up properly in December is crucial, as not only can having a freezing  affect your health, but it can cause your  to skyrocket.

John Lawless, a home heating expert from , has shared that if your radiator is not turning as hot as it should then it likely can be fixed without specialised tools or having to call a plumber.

He said: “Keeping radiators may seem like an obvious way to ensure they operate properly, but many people overlook the different components of a radiator and where to clean to guarantee good performance.

“We’re not just talking about the surface of the radiator – or the bit you and your visitors can see – we’re talking about in-between panels and even INSIDE the radiator itself.”

Dust, hair and other debris can clog your radiator and prevent heat from escaping, which makes it far less efficient while having to use much more energy to try and heat your home.

Making sure to clean every nook and crevice of your radiator can be difficult as it can be difficult to reach, but luckily, there is a simple trick that takes less than five minutes.

John said: “There are a few tricks you can use to get this dust out from between the fins of the radiator, but our personal favourite is the hairdryer hack.”

First, place an old sheet, towel, or blanket underneath the radiator to catch the dust as it blows out, so you do not have to worry about hoovering afterwards.

Then, simply point the nozzle of the hair dryer down the back of the radiator in the space between the appliance and the wall.

Switch on the hair dryer, place it on the highest setting, and it should force out any dust that has been sitting inside the radiator.

Next, just pick up your towel, sheet or blanket and give it a thorough shake outside to avoid any cleanup. Then, your radiator should more able to quickly heat up your home once again.

Having dirty radiators tends to be the most common they are inefficient, but if cleaning them out does not work, then you may want to look into to get rid of any excess water in the appliance.

Also, ensure that your sofa, curtains or anything else is not blocking your radiator, as this can also cause them to not work properly.

Taking the time to do these tasks is simple and can ensure you stay cosy in your home during the cold, stormy weather at this time of year.
