ITV Stephen Mulhern’s rise to stardom from teen magician to primetime TV presenter

is a cherished figure in the world of television, having been part of numerous successful TV shows for over 14-years.

Currently, Stephen can be seen on the long-running game show , where he took over hosting duties from in 2016.

However, the 47-year-old’s on-screen journey began as a youngster when he gained interest in magic after being taught the tricks by his late father.

Being the youngest member of The Magic Circle brought Stephen the opportunity to feature on Blue Peter as a teenager.

He later starred in Michael Barrymore’s My Kind of People before winning The Big Big Talent Show in 1997, which was hosted by Jonathan Ross and as a result, Stephen was invited to take part in the Royal Variety Performance

Reflecting on his early days, Stephen said: “Other kids watched Match of the Day and got into football, I watched Paul Daniels and decided to learn magic.

“And it was the magic that led me to be a Redcoat at Butlin’s. It gave me a career.”

The TV added to , that he “didn’t get into magic to be cool” but he was simply entranced by the hobby.

This kick-started his presenter journey which began in children’s television, working alongside the likes of and Fearne Cotton.

Since then, Stephen has been involved in a plethora of shows, including his popular programme In for a Penny, which initially began as a segment on Saturday Night Takeaway.

After taking the reins of ITV2’s Dancing on Ice: Defrosted between 2006 and 2007, and fame followed for Stephen, as he seamlessly transitioned to hosting spin-off shows for these major ITV hits.

This was a career-boosting move as the TV star ventured into primetime television during the 2010s and became the face of the revamped Catchphrase in 2013, bringing the classic game show back to ITV.

He then fronted Big Star’s Little Star, the Ant vs Dec segment on ‘s Saturday Night Takeaway in 2016, replacing Ashley Roberts.

This year, he reunited with Holly to co-host Dancing on Ice after replacing from his ITV exit in 2023.
