Now, a clip of the former greengrocer’s bizarre sauna confession has resurfaced from an appearance on Would I Lie To You back in 2011.

The TV star shared a panel with team captain David Mitchell and Nigel Slater where he was quizzed about his unusual gym activities.

Gregg pulled out one of his old history books as he revealed: “This is one of my history books. I read them in the sauna to make them look old. I think they’re more attractive that way, I like them all bashed up and older.”

“I just took the book into the sauna. I go to the gym, I try not to be fat, I like the sauna as well so I read when I’m in the sauna and the books get aged.”

Baffled, team captain asked: “And you’re naked in the sauna? You’re naked with a book? But you wear glasses.” The TV chef clarified: “It is difficult because I don’t wear my glasses, I just hold my book up closer [to my face].”

Gregg handed over the book to the other team as he asked: “Does it smell like a sauna?” to which Lee confirmed: “It is aged, and it’s aged by dampness, that I know.”

But upon closer inspection, the comic spotted that there was a phone number in the back of his book. Lee chuckled: “Sorry, there’s a phone number in the back and a bloke’s name. It’s Tony and then a bloke’s phone number, what’s going on?”

It was at this point that the comic jokingly hid behind the book and peered over the edge before wiggling his eyebrows. It comes after Gregg’s second wife descibed their marriage as “utter hell” in an unearthed interview.

Denise Lovell and Gregg split in 2004, with her claiming that the split left her financially and emotionally drained, leading to a nervous breakdown as her children moved in with Gregg in Whitstable, Kent.

Denise spoke out in 2012, shortly after Gregg’s split from his third wife, Heidi Brown. Reflecting on Heidi and Gregg’s marriage, Denise ominously remarked: “If my own experience is anything to go by it will have been utter hell and very, very lonely.”

Denise died in 2017, five years after her interview with the and over a decade after her divorce.
