Greg Norman
Greg Norman has revealed he will be stepping down as the CEO of LIV Golf. The 69-year-old Australian, who has been at the helm of the Saudi Arabia-backed golf series since October 2021, confirmed his departure ahead of the league’s second season.
Known for his polarising role in the ongoing rift between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, Norman has been a contentious figure. Rory McIlroy, a vocal advocate for the traditional tours, suggested back in November 2022 that Norman’s exit could pave the way for peace talks.
In an interview with WISH-TV in the United States, Norman remarked: “I’ve seen it (LIV Golf) come from a business model on paper to giving birth on the golf course to where it is today.
“Is there going to be a new CEO? Yes. There will be a new CEO. I’m fine with that.
“Will I always have a place and be involved with LIV to some capacity? Yes. I’ll always have that.”
He expressed pride in his contribution to LIV Golf’s impact on the sport. Meanwhile, the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) have been in discussions following a surprising “framework agreement” announced in June 2023.
Tiger Woods, serving on the PGA Tour policy board, aired his grievances about the sluggish pace of discussions this week, remarking: “I think all of us who have been a part of this process would have thought it would have happened quicker than this.
“But we wish we would have had something more concrete and further along than we are right now.
“I think something will get done. In what form or shape, I don’t know yet.”
