, with a big divide emerging between regions in the north and south of the country, according to new figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The latest data shows that babies born between 2021 and 2023 are compared to those born just a few years earlier.
Male life expectancy has dropped in 83 percent of council areas, while female life expectancy has decreased in 70 percent of areas.
For the first time since records began in 2001, has overtaken Glasgow as the part of with the lowest average life expectancy for men.
Male babies born in Blackpool can expect to live just 73.1 years, compared to 73.6 years in Glasgow.

The top 10 areas with the shortest life expectancies for males are largely in Scotland, with Manchester, Kingston-upon-Hull, and Merthyr Tydfil in Wales also featuring.
Women fare slightly better in Blackpool, but not by much. Female life expectancy in the seaside town stands at 78.9 years – the lowest in England but slightly higher than Glasgow’s 78.3 years, which remains the lowest in Great Britain.
In Wales, women born in Blaenau Gwent have the shortest life expectancy at 79.0 years.
In contrast, the south of England dominates the areas with the longest life expectancy.

Male babies born in Hart, Hampshire, have the highest average lifespan of 83.4 years, while female life expectancy peaks in London’s affluent borough of Kensington and Chelsea at 86.5 years.
Scotland’s healthiest area is East Renfrewshire, where men live to 81.0 years and women to 84.5 years.
In Wales, Monmouthshire leads, with male and female life expectancies at 80.4 and 83.9 years, respectively.
ONS head of population health monitoring Greg Ceely said: “This suggests we are yet to see a recovery from the decrease in life expectancy we saw during the pandemic.
“Taking Great Britain as a whole, for the first time since this time series began, Blackpool, not Glasgow, has the lowest male life expectancy. Glasgow continues to have the lowest female life expectancy.”
