Katie and Peter developed a romance whilst in the jungle
With returning to television screens, Katie, who is now dating MAFS star JJ Slater, has been reminiscing about her famed relationship with Peter, describing it as ‘quite an amazing journey’ and claiming that ‘no one’s ever been anywhere near close to her and Pete in there’.
In a conversation with The Sun, she expressed her feelings: “But I’ll tell you what is sad about all of it – we fell in love in the jungle, got married, had kids, had an amazing life but like 20 years on and we don’t even speak, it’s just crazy what happens with time.”
She previously mused over her jungle experience on her show My Crazy Life five years ago.
Katie and Peter share two children together
“The first time I went in the jungle, I never thought I’d bloody fall in love with someone, and obviously I met Pete and had two beautiful kids,” she mused. “It’s weird, it brings back so many memories.”
Following the collapse of their marriage, Peter was “absolutely gutted” when Katie returned to the Maldives villa where they celebrated their 2005 honeymoon with their children.
“Being apart from my kids is just breaking my heart,” he lamented to the Daily Star at the time. “It’s destroying me – I’m absolutely gutted.”
The argument that spelled the end of their union was captured on film, with Peter later admitting on camera his disdain for his wife. “I get it all the time on and off but I love that girl,” he confessed in a pre-recorded episode that aired three months later.
“I love her incredibly but when I hate her, I hate her. Hate’s a strong word when I’m not happy, I’m very not happy,” he continued. “Me and Kate were going through so much s*** last year. People knew we were arguing all the time. All this speculation about us and it made us argue more, it was a really, really bad time.”
