Andrew Frazer has been left fighting for life in hospital
A bouncer at a pub has been arrested over an alleged attack on a British holidaymaker who was punched in the street and left fighting for life in hospital.
Andrew Frazer, 43, was allegedly floored by a doorman in an “unprovoked” attack during a lads’ break to the famous Costa Blanca resort just over a week after proposing to long-term partner Carrie Howard.
The father-of-two, from St Helens, , had to have part of his skull cut away to relieve swelling on the brain.
He has since returned to the UK after a gruelling 27-hour journey in the back of a private ambulance because his injuries were too severe for a medical flight. His family has said the full extent of the damage he suffered is still being assessed.
It emerged overnight that a Romanian man aged 42 had been arrested over the alleged incident outside the venue in Benidorm’s famous Little England area. The unnamed suspect was held last week on suspicion of a crime of wounding.
He was released on bail pending an ongoing criminal probe after appearing before a judge in a court hearing held in private during which he denied being the person who assaulted Mr Frazer.
More than £30k was raised to cover the cost of bringing Andrew Frazer home
Lawyer Roberto Sanchez Martinez is representing the suspect. Mr Sanchez Martinez represented five British men who were arrested after Scottish newly-wed Kirsty Maxwell fell to her death on April 29, 2017, after a night out with friends in Benidorm.
The five men were cleared of any wrongdoing.
Mr Frazer’s brother, Ian, filed a complaint with the police after the alleged assault on his sibling, who works as a ramp agent for DHL at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
Andrew’s sister-in-law, Claire Howard, said he was sent back to his hotel after receiving hospital treatment, without a CT scan.
But his condition worsened and Mr Frazer was taken to another hospital the next day where a scan revealed a serious bleed on the brain.

A scan revealed a serious bleed on Andrew Frazer’s brain after the alleged attack in Benidorm
He was put into an induced coma and underwent an emergency craniotomy, a surgical procedure in which part of the skull is removed to access the brain.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help pay for Andrew’s return to the UK last Thursday as he didn’t have travel insurance. It has raised more than £30,000.
Ian was part of a group of six men who flew out to Benidorm for Europe’s largest fancy dress party in the Spanish resort.
He told Mail Online the group ended up in a bar and Andrew was outside waiting for his pals when they were making their way out at about 1.30am.
Andrew was on the kerb and a bouncer was “in his face” standing in front of him, according to his brother, who said his sibling was looking over his shoulder to see when the rest of the group was coming out when a guy punched him, knocking him out.
Ian said he fell backwards and hit his head on the road as he was out cold, adding: “I ran over and held his head.
“A British nurse who was walking past with her husband rushed to help and propped his head up. She was horrified by what had happened and stayed with us.”
