During Friday’s visit (December 6) to the studios, the 57-year-old broadcaster woke up the nation alongside her co-star Rob Rinder.

The blonde bombshell and the 46-year-old barrister discussed some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines. This included the weather warnings for Storm Darragh set to hit the UK this weekend and Sir Kier Starmer’s plans to avoid further tax rises until the next election.

Later on in the show, the dynamic duo interviewed the former boxer just hours after he left the ITV jungle alongside his co-star Maura Higgins.

Reflecting on his time on the ITV reality show, the mum-of-two asked him about the emotional moment he opened up about the death of his daughter Danika in 2019. The late actress sadly died five weeks after she was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the age of 33.

She began: “A lot of people were really touched on the power of your grief, how challenging was that and should we talk about it?”

Barry replied: “It was the single most devastating thing that’s happened to me, losing my daughter five years ago was dreadful. I’ve never recovered from it- me and my wife.”

He added: “Her life was so sad, it all happened at the most important time of her life when things were looking great and got cancer and she died.

“Me and my wife have never really recovered from it and I don’t think we ever will, just time teaches us how to deal with it.” As he broke down in tears on the morning show, Barry kindly told the presenters, “sorry”.

But Kate quickly tepped and told him it was fine. She said: “No I didn’t want to interrupt you, I thought you had stopped because I thought there was a delay.

“We can see the emotion pouring out of you. We saw it when you were in there as well and everybody just wanted to hug you then and hug you now.”

He also admitted that he previously faced backlash for opening up as some people told him to “get over it”. It didn’t take long before viewers flooded to X – formerly known as Twitter – to call out the presenter for making the Irish presenter cry on air.

One user fumed: “Why has GMB asked Bary McGuigan about his daughter. Kate and Rob on live TV this morning made the poor man go over the death of his daughter made it uncomfortable viewing.

Another agreed: “Please McGuigan alone deliberately making the man cry on national TV #GMB” as a fourth echoed: “You set Barry up there. Shame on you #gmb.”

One user fumed: “What a man… You can see the pain of losing his daughter still lingers. How could anyone be so heartless to tell him to ‘get over it’? And then Kate steps in with her story #GMB.”
