has confirmed its TV schedule, but excitement amongst viewers appears to have fallen flat.

With a blend of children’s films, family entertainment and of course the King’s Christmas Broadcast, the listings offer nothing out of the ordinary. However, according to X (formerly users, perhaps it’s time to part with tradition.

Radio Times shared the schedule, which kicks off with four animations – Trolls: Holiday in Harmony, Toy Story 3 and Minions: The Rise of Gru, and Tiddler – a television adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s book. King Charles III’s speech follows at 3pm, before Christmas specials of The Weakest Link, and Doctor Who take us into the evening.

Two regular staples are up next – Wallace and Gromit return with Vengeance Most Fowl and where there is sure to be drama in Albert Square. They are proceeded by Call The Midwife, the final ever installment of Gavin & Stacey, and Mrs Brown’s Boys. The latter – as well as – both air in two parts.

Hundreds of Brits responded to the announcement, revealing they’d either “switch off” or seek better entertainment elsewhere.

“Still haven’t processed the fact I won’t be able to slide into my traditional food coma snooze within 10 minutes of ‘the One family film after the King/Queen’s Speech’,” one X user quipped. “The most content, satisfying 10 minutes of the year, every year. Robbed, stolen.”

A second vented in very similar fashion: “No movie after the Kings speech? Guess I’ll have to find one on another channel to fall asleep to after my Xmas lunch….wont be breaking that tradition.”

A third person recalled: “I still miss the 80s’ staple of having Noel Edmonds hosting a live Christmas Day programme at lunchtime, from the top of BT tower, or somewhere. Live Christmas Day telly always felt a bit more special.” Whilst a fourth person hit out: ” If that’s their offering for Christmas Day then we’ll be watching ITV until 9pm!”

Whilst a fourth offered a glimmer of positivity: “I remember when Doctor Who was absolute must see TV on Christmas Day, doesn’t seem to be the same these days. Wallace and Gromit and Gavin & Stacey will hopefully be brilliant.”

It wasn’t just One that came in for criticism, meanwhile. “The Christmas TV schedules are just getting so predictable. Indiana Jones franchise being shown on Channel 4, Agatha Christie films and ‘Classics’ on 2,” one person noted. “Must be the ninth consecutive year where the same films keep reappearing in the Xmas schedules!”

Announcing the Beeb’s festive scheduling, Chief Content Officer, Charlotte Moore, said: “No one does Christmas quite like the , and this year we have raised the bar even higher with a cracking line-up that will bring people together across the UK.

“I’m incredibly excited to be showcasing the finest British creativity and welcoming back some of the nation’s favourite characters in the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey and the premiere of Wallace & Gromit’s new feature length adventure. Alongside a magical mix of new festive shows from the world of comedy, drama, entertainment and factual across the holiday season that viewers can rejoice in. Join us live or on iPlayer – there really is something for everyone!”
