There’s nothing like Christmas baking
As much as it’s the time of year for love and cheer, is also perfect for baking.
From cakes to mince pies and chocolate logs, there are so many delicious things to whip up. But, when it comes to with the kids, cookies are always a good option.
After all, they’re relatively easy to make, are fun to decorate and taste amazing too. As National Cookie Day takes place on December 4, it seems the perfect time to share a festive and fun .
baker @sophiebakas recently revealed how to make cute and comforting candycane cookies, and they’re pretty simple to pull off. They’re easy to make and only require a few simple steps to master.
To whip them up, you’ll need the following:
- 225g unsalted butter at room temperature
- 115g granulated sugar
- 10g vanilla sugar (optional)
- 65g powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- 400g all-purpose flour
- One tsp salt
- Red food colouring

Once you have the ingredients, simply mix together the butter and sugars. Then add the egg, the flour and salt.
From here you simply divide the dough into two sections, and add the red food colouring to one of them. Pop them into the fridge for one hour before completing the next step.
Once chilled, preheat the oven to 180°C and measure 15cm of each coloured dough. Gently roll them into 10cm long shapes.
Twist them together and place them on a baking tray that’s been lined with parchment paper. Bake for 11 minutes or until you feel they’re cooked enough.
Before serving, ensure you leave them on a wire rack to cool down. That’s all there is to the simple .
