Making a comeback too are figures like the enigmatic overseer known as the Front Man (portrayed by Lee Byung-hun), whose shocking familial ties were unveiled at the last season’s close, alongside the cryptic suit-wearing recruiter enacted by Gong Yoo.

An array of twelve new talents has also signed up for season 2’s roster, adding names like Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Jo Yu-ri, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an to the suspenseful mix.

But fandom chatter suggests there may be surprises in store involving other “missing characters” who could potentially stage comebacks.

One user, @Longjumping-Cress845, speculated: “Those that didn’t return for the games.”

“When players willingly returned to play more games 14 previous players did not return… Do you think these 14 players or one of him will be mentioned again?” they asked, before suggesting: “Maybe they’ll be enticed to play the new games and join?”

A debate broke out in the comments section, with one viewer arguing: “Those were the 14 smartest characters in the show and therefore we won’t ever see them again.”

The original poster replied: “So you don’t think even one will make a return? They made it seem like they or one of em would be important.” (sic)

The commenter wrote back: “The first season was made without the idea that there would even be a second season. We don’t even really get a good look at who the 14 are. Plus the games are invite only and it seems like it’s pretty alarming to the people who run the game that there would even be one returning player.”

However, not everyone was convinced by this theory, as another fan added: “The frontman mentioned to keep monitoring them though…”

“Wasn’t there a comment made by the Frontman to keep an eye on them?” another agreed.

Squid Game season 2 will be available to stream exclusively on from December 26.
