has opened up about the appalling homophobic abuse he has faced as a football fan.
star who is a well-known enthusiast, took to X, previously known as Twitter, to share his distressing experiences of verbal assault while attending matches this season.
The comedian who is openly gay, told his followers that the insults were of a homophobic nature.
He revealed: “I have been verbally abused twice on the way to football matches so far this season. On both occasions I was minding my own business, head down, walking to the ground.
“I was called ‘a f**king queer c**t’ by one man and another told me that ‘our club doesn’t want disgusting gay fans’.

“If you’re a player and that offends you less than wearing a rainbow-coloured armband for a couple of matches, then maybe you’re part of the problem,” he added.
In the comments, Matt engaged with some followers who implied he was exaggerating the extent of homophobia, reports .
One supporter commented: “I’m not denying it happened.. but I’ve been going to Arsenal for 40 years and never heard anything remotely homophobic.. the stadium has a big banner saying ‘Gay Gooners’ and nobody seems to mind.
“You sure it wasn’t away fans winding you up? And are you sure rainbows will fix it?” To which Matt succinctly responded: “Good for you.”

The host has openly shared his experience about being gay, having had an inkling about his sexuality since he was roughly seven years old.
Matt, who tends to keep his private life under wraps, went through a tough period following the loss of his first significant other.
In 2002, he crossed paths with TV producer Kevin McGee, who contributed to several of Matt’s projects, such as The Real Little Britain, Jump Britain, and The Morning After Show.
The pair’s romance blossomed rapidly, culminating in a civil partnership ceremony in December 2006 in London, graced by stars like , the late Paul O’Grady, and Courtney Love.
However, their union was short-lived. After only 18 months, it was formally dissolved in 2008 at the High Court.
Following their separation, Kevin tragically took his own life, facing battles with depression and drug addiction. He was discovered deceased in his Edinburgh apartment in October 2009.
Reflecting on a decade since Kevin’s untimely death, in 2019, Matt touching tribute on social media: “I loved him more than anyone I’ve ever met, and still do. He was so funny and silly and clever and kind and handsome, and his smile made my heart soar.”
He further stated: “We were together for nearly six years and he made me the happiest man on the planet. In the end, he lost his battle with addiction and depression. I guess some people don’t have the armour for this world. I think of him probably a hundred times a day, every day. In truth, I think of little else.”
