While the Queen then returned to some smaller-scale royal duties the following week, she admitted that she still had some symptoms of the infection.

at one of the events she attended on November 12 where she met this year’s Booker Prize finalists.

She could be heard saying: “I’m getting much better. Bit of sort of coughing going on but I really wanted to be here.”

She was heard telling another attendee: “I’m on the mend, these things always take a bit of time to get rid of… but hopefully I’m on the mend now.”

Despite this, Buckingham Palace confirmed that as symptoms of Her Majesty’s chest infection were still lingering, she on November 22.

The Queen was advised to continue resting as although the viral infection was gone, some of the symptoms remained present, which is fairly common in cold weather.

The advice to rest remains in place, as Buckingham Palace confirmed on Monday that during the Qatari state visit on Tuesday but will attend other elements of the day including the state banquet.

The decision has been made to allow the Queen to rest and recover as quickly as possible from the last few lingering symptoms of the infection.
