fans were left up in arms after and grilled MP Jess Phillips about former judge .
During Tuesday’s visit (December 3) to the studios, the 55-year-old broadcaster and his co-host Sally, 53, woke up the nation with the latest stories hitting the headlines.
This included former MasterChef judge apologising for his comment as he faces allegations of inappropriate behaviour and the death of one of the last remaining D-Day veterans.
But arguably one of the biggest stories hitting the headlines is the news that victims will be given the right to know the identity of their online stalkers under new measures by the government.
To get a better insight into the new development, the presenting duo welcomed the Minister for Safeguarding and Violence Against Women and Girls onto the show to learn a bit more about the strengthening of stalking protection orders in the UK.
BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent and Jon Kay discussed the new stalking measures by the government
However, viewers were furious when the topic turned to the ongoing scandal the former TV chef is currently facing after he stepped down from the cooking show.
After discussing the new developments the government are initiating, the pair asked her about her opinion on the ongoing scandal surrounding Gregg, 60, following his exit from MasterChef.
Sally began: “You are aware I’m sure of the allegations surrounding the presenter Gregg Wallace about his conduct on the set of the programme MasterChef.
“The ‘s continuing to show that programme, it was on last night and I believe there are Christmas specials coming up too, do you think in the wider context that that is the right thing to do?”
The politician replied: “Look, Gregg Wallace isn’t the only person on MasterChef, if it was just the Gregg Wallace show then I could understand, you would immediately go, ‘Yeah, just take it off the air’. But it is a launchpad for quite a lot of young chefs.
They welcomed MP Jess Phillips onto the show
“It’s not for me to decide what the chooses to air or not because obviously I would put your programme on all day, every day.
“But the situation with Gregg Wallace is being investigated and the slight magic that Christmas episodes aren’t filmed at Christmas has been broken by this particular revelation. But I think as long as the investigation is ongoing, then I’m okay with that.”
When she was asked if she has experienced any sort of inappropriate behaviour during her time on reality shows in the past, she replied: “Funnily enough no, not on reality television, but I work in the House of Commons.
“I will reiterate, I work in the House of Commons so a lot of people have said sexist things [over the years]. Most women have experienced it.”
It didn’t take long before viewers flooded to X to share their disappointment at the discussion of the controversial presenter on the morning show.
Fans fumed at the discussion of the controversial presenter
One user penned: “Christ, just watched #bbcbreakfast extract a reluctant opinion on Gregg Wallace and whether the should still air MasterChef out of @jessphillips, and now they’re running it as one of their main headlines. ‘Jess Phillips says are right to air MasterChef’.”
Another asked: “Why doesn’t #bbcbreakfast ask a executive if MasterChef should continue being shown… if they can find one available #bbcbreakfast.”
A third fumed: “Jon Kay & , ‘Jess Phillips, those stalking protection orders you’ve come on to talk about sound dead good and all that, but can we talk about Gregg Wallace instead please, as it’s far more titillating and salacious’. #bbcbreakfast #r4today.”
