Some Strictly Come Dancing fans think the show is set for the chop after more issues this year
Strictly Come Dancing fans have demanded a format change over a huge issue blighting the semi-finals – while some are predicting the show won’t return at all in 2025.
The quarter finals of the hit dance competition threw up its usual selection of drama and rows on Sunday night as the final four couples were chosen by the voting public and one couple, and Johannes Radebe, missed out on a place in the semi.
It means the semi-final lineup is confirmed as and pro partner Jowita Przystal, and Aljaz Skorjanec, and Lauren Oakley, and Dianne Buswell and and Vito Coppola.
Montell fell into the bottom two this week and was forced to dance off against Love Island star . Ultimately, the judges chose to save Tasha, sending Montell and Johannes home.
Montell and Johannes were the latest couple to be sent home
Despite Pete being bottom of the leaderboard, Pete again sailed through on the public vote, leading many outraged Strictly fans to call for a change to the show’s format.
@wittyjack said: “The later stages of the competition should be taken out of the judges’ hands to decide who makes the semi final and final and should be entirely on public votes only #Strictly2024 #StrictlyComeDancing”
@guyfoxy said: “The judges saying one thing the public voting for their favourite rather than the best dancers.
“No way were either Chris or Pete better than Johannes and his partner, [it’s] beginning to looked fixed, even Pete looked shocked.”
@armstronkis said: “This is going to force a format change as it’s getting ridiculous.”
@steverandalluk said: “People get so upset about the #StrictlyComeDancing vote and come up with all kinds of crazy theories. Montell & Tasha should be both be semi finalists. But most people (especially adults) who watch it will never vote. It’s a major flaw in the format but that’s how it is.”
@haynes_terry added: “I think the format of the show should change. It’s a popularity show not a dance competition #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing these two should never be in the dance.”
Some Strictly fans have even gone as far as to call time on the series entirely after 20 years of the dance show, predicting that a streaming service like Amazon will come in and steal the show’s thunder, as The Grand Tour with did to Top Gear with Freddie Flintoff.
@alan_muso said: “Maybe it’s fitting that what is looking like the last series of #StrictlyComeDancing should be won by the guy with the biggest social media following. The judges know he should be off but he looks like lifting the glitter ball and maybe that’s about right.
“As we should expect, the will make a sickening mess as they try to hang on to #Strictly. Just like Top Gear they’ll cling on for a few years and make fools of themselves. Meanwhile it looks like Amazon will commission Dancing With The Stars UK.”
