However, a motoring expert has urged drivers not to let Christmas lights distract them as they drive past, which and .

Graham Conway, Managing Director for , highlighted that, whilst many motorists enjoy a drive around their neighbourhood to look at the decorations, it could .

He warned: “It’s not unusual for families to hop in the car to check out Christmas lights in the towns and cities nearest to them, treating it a bit like Yuletide road trip.

“But it’s all too easy for motorists to become distracted by the twinkling lights above their head, as they take their eyes off the road and glance at the Christmas spectacle instead.”

No matter the scenario they are facing, it is important that motorists give their undivided attention to their surroundings at all time.

Motorists who break this rule could be accused of distracted driving, with offenders typically facing a penalty of £100 and three points, which may increase to £5,000 and nine points if it led to an accident.

As a result, drivers thinking about checking out the festive decorations in their area should think about walking instead.

Graham also warned drivers that they should avoid travelling too slowly in order to look at certain Christmas decorations, instead pulling over in a safe location.

He continued: “And that’s a real problem when you have other cars also slowing down to take in the sights while increased numbers of pedestrians gather to look and take pictures.”

Whilst there is no set minimum speed limit, travelling too slowly on a public road could lead to a motorist being accused of careless driving, leading to a £100 fine and three points.
