Judd Trump is looking to become the UK Championship champion for the second time today. The has continued his excellent 2024/25 season by reaching the final in York after seeing off world champion Kyren Wilson in the semi-finals.
Barry Hawkins, who in the other semi-final, stands between Trump and what would be just his fifth Triple Crown title. His only other UK Championship title came back in 2011.
The 35-year-old is warm favourite to see off Hawkins, having regained his world No.1 status earlier this season. Trump has won almost £1m already this season and will collect another £250,000 if he beats Hawkins. With the Masters and World Championship, plus some lucrative events in the Far East, it’s possible he could get close to the £2m mark for the season, which ends with the World Championship in May.

“While I’m still reasonably young, I’m trying to make sure I have a good time off the table as well. I think it’s easier knowing that I don’t have the old 20-hour journey home. That helps me.
“I think I will be based in the Middle East now rather than in the UK. I don’t feel like you have to play in the UK anymore full-time. I really don’t.

“My mum misses me – I’m not sure about my dad! At least he gets to watch me on the TV. They will always be at the big events in the UK.”
He added: “Spending a lot of time in Asia before events is probably best for my snooker at the moment. It’s definitely beneficial to be away from the UK. Now I’m coming up with the UK Championship and the Masters, then probably not.”
O’Sullivan respect
While Trump is the best player in the world at present, remains the sport’s star attraction, despite the Rocket’s waning form. There is clearly immense respect between the pair, demonstrated by their very long embrace following O’Sullivan’s victory over Trump in the 2022 World Championship final.
The Rocket has hailed Trump numerous times over the years. Speaking ahead of last year’s UK Championship, he said on Eurosport: “As a kid, we all heard about Judd Trump knocking in balls, making his breaks and 147s and breaking all my records as a kid. He’s just a special talent, very, very gifted.
“He was always going to be a champion. He was always going to be a great, great player, win a lot of tournaments and you just can’t stop it when someone is that good and that talented. You just have to sit back, watch it and admire it.”
