Adam Henson revealed why he had to ‘have a word’ with his dad
Adam Henson has revealed that he had to ‘have a word’ with his dad over an ‘awkward and tricky time’ with his wife.
Writing in his recently released, Christmas on the Farm book, the star recalled how he had agreed to take on his dad’s farm after his parents decision to live elsewhere, but the transition was far from straightforward.
Reflecting on the shift from working on the farm for his dad when he was younger to now running the farm himself, as well as moving into his parents , he recalled one incident shortly after he and his wife, Charlotte had moved in.
He said: “Dad came to the farm most days, and he would walk into the kitchen without knocking, perhaps with a feed merchant in tow, while Charlie was breastfeeding Ella at the kitchen table. ‘Any chance of a coffee, Charlie?’ he’d say, breezily.”

While adding that his wife was ‘very patient’, he claimed that he had to step in to have a ‘quiet word’.
Adam continued: “I think this transition is something that affects all farms that are handed down through the generations. Charlie was very patient, but in the end I had a quiet word with dad about knocking before he came in, and gradually both mum and dad came to accept that the farmhouse was ours, and that we would live there in our own way.”
He also recalled how the move was especially difficult for his mum to come to terms with, as he added: “It was really tricky for Mum, she had spent thirty-six years bringing up her children there, nursing her parents and Dad’s mum there in the end stages of their lives. Because they moved into a smaller house, many of their belongings and furniture remained at the farm, which made it even more difficult to think of it as no longer theirs.”

Much like his dad, Adam said that his mum would also treat the farm as her own still, as she would happily still come and go from the property: “Mum would walk in and go straight to a cupboard to look for something she thought should be there, to find it had been moved – or even got rid of altogether.”
Despite initially seeing some of the downsides to the move, he joked as he revealed one decision that he and his wife made upon moving into the house.
Adam said: “We never moved into their bedroom though, even though it’s the one with an ensuite. That would have felt too weird.”
