As winter officially sets in, many will be dreaming of care-free days taking a stroll on a beautiful , soaking up the sights.

But just because the weather may be significantly colder doesn’t mean a winter beach walk is only for the brave.

New research has revealed the best in England to visit this winter with outdoor experts at compiling the number one spot.

They looked at factors including the average rainfall that region has including daylight hours, temperature and its popularity on Google reviews.

According to the experts, the best in the UK for a winter stroll went to Bamburgh Beach in Northumberland with The Castle Inn providing the perfect antidote for the cold season.

Bamburgh Beach is situated on the North Eastern coast and provides a long stretch of sandy beaches that looks out to the Farne Islands.

The region is home to the famous puffins with seals and many other species to spot while taking a leisurely stroll.

The beach attracts a host of visitors who flock there all year round, with impressive reviews describing it as having “incredible views and beautiful sand, it’s a fantastic place to go for a walk.”

Bamburgh Beach has an average temperature of 5.5C, so it’s best to pack a thick coat with you but the cold completely outweighs the good with beauty all around including unique wildlife to look out for when visiting here.

According to the experts, the average rainfall at Bamburgh Beach during November to February is 69mm with an average of 4.4 sunlight hours during the same period and had 92,800 Google searches (Oct 2023-Sept 2024) with a 4.9 Google review out of 5 and a 9.83 beach walk score out of 10.

“Although the cold weather may cause people to stay inside, there is no better time to explore the UK than the winter months,” said Calum Jones, author and outdoor enthusiast at .

“As crowds disperse, visitors to beaches often find themselves with miles of coastline to themselves.”

The popular Bamburgh , The Castle Inn, is a firm favourite among locals and is also an ideal spot to visit at the end of your wintry beachwalk.

The pub boasts a cosy fire to warm you right up with a large selection of tipples to warm your soul.

Bamburgh Beach offers stunning white sands to walk along, is dog-friendly with Bamburgh Castle providing the perfect backdrop for your walk, making this spot one of Britain’s best.

“This beach is to die for it’s unspoilt just lots of lovely beach , lovely sand dunes and lovely views and easy access,” wrote one review on TripAdvisor.

Another added: “Absolutely beautiful beach and was so lucky to catch it in nice weather during October. Clear sea and soft golden sand. Well maintained as dogs are allowed on and their mess is not left. Neither is rubbish. Beautiful day for couples, families, small children and friends.”
