Strictly’s Chris McCausland admits it ‘hurts’ as BBC star casts doubt on show future

star Chris McCausland admitted he doesn’t remember a time when it “didn’t hurt” while competing in the show. The stand-up comedian, who is the show’s first blind contestant, opened up about his recent struggles on It Takes Two.

The 47-year-old admitted he is no fan of the paso doble despite receiving praise from the show judges.

During last Saturday’s show (November 23), he joined his dance partner . They performed their routine to El Gato Montes by Manuel Panella, which head judge Shirley Ballas said didn’t have a “step out of place,” while Anton De Beke said it was “extraordinary.”

Addressing the routine on the Strictly spin-off show, It Takes Two, on Thursday evening, the comic told show host Janette Manara it felt “unnatural”, with her asking him how his back and knees feel now.

Chris replied, “What week is this?”

“I can’t remember a time when it didn’t hurt,” he continued. “This show is weird, right? Because the training every week, oh, it drags. But the Saturdays come around really fast and then when you look back, normally when you do something like this you go, ‘Oh has it been three months already?'”

He added, “I can’t remember a life before Strictly.”

Despite his candidness, one former star has since cast doubt on his Strictly future as we head into week 11.

Ola Jordan, who was a professional dancer on Strictly, believes Chris could be in the dance off on Sunday night.

Speaking to , she said: “I think Montell [Douglas] doing the Rumba will definitely be in the bottom two again this week. It’s hard to predict now as JB [Gill] is the only celebrity remaining who has been in the bottom two – the others have never been in the bottom two. But JB might be getting votes now.”

Ola continued: “I think it’s going to be between Chris, Pete [Wicks] and JB to be in the bottom two with Montell. Chris, Pete and JB are all doing a Ballroom dance which is in a frame so it’s going to be easier for all of them. It’s going to be quite hard to pick because they will all be good so it will come down to who’s getting the most votes.

“I think Sarah and Tasha will both be safe. Sarah is doing the Charleston which is going to be quite energetic and full-on. Tasha is doing Argentine Tango, which is always a crowd-pleaser, so I think they’ll both avoid the bottom two.”
