Strictly Come Dancing ‘curse’ stars still together – from marriage to shunning spotlight

It’s no secret that is an intense environment. Each couple spends a lot of time training together during the competition weeks.

Over the years, fans have seen a number of celebrities and their pro partners experience passionate moments, with some even leading to blossoming romances.

It’s unsurprising that so many couples give in to these connections during the Strictly bubble, but the question stands if these connections are as strong once they return to their daily life.

Thankfully, there are a number of couples who have defied critics and gone on to tie the knot, or even have children together. We take a look at some pairs who are still together after meeting on .

Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton

Stacey has been dating her partner Kevin Clifton since spring 2019. The couple initially met during the 2018 series when they were paired together, which they went on to win.

However at the time Stacey was dating her then-boyfriend Sam Tucknott. A few months later while Stacey was on the Strictly Live tour – dancing with Aljaz Skorjanec – she split up with Sam.

Despite rumours of an overlap, Stacey claimed she only fell for Kevin after her split with Sam. The couple recently welcomed their first baby together, a girl named Minnie.

Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell

YouTube sensation Joe Sugg had never been in a serious relationship until he met Dianne. After being paired together in 2018, they made it all the way to the final but narrowly missed out on the title.

Their loss did not mean the end of their partnership, as the couple announced their romance shortly after the final. Taking to his official profile, Joe posted: “I may not have won the Glitterball, but I’ve won something a million times more special.”

The pair keep their relationship rather private, but they both live together and Joe spent Christmas in Australia with Dianne’s family last year.

Pasha Kovalev and Rachel Riley

Countdown host and maths graduate Rachel Riley was already married when she was partnered with Pasha, however the marriage lasted for only a year.

After her divorce in 2013, Rachel and Pasha started dating and tied the knot in 2019 in Las Vegas. On 15 December 2019, Riley gave birth to a baby girl, and then gave birth to her second girl in 2021.

Ben Cohen and Kristina Rihanoff

Former England rugby player Ben Cohen met Kristina during the 2013 series when they were paired together. Ben was already married to Abby Blayney, but they seperated in 2014.

Ben and Kristina confirmed their romance shortly afterwards, with Kristina giving birth to their daughter in 2016. In November 2022, Ben announced their engagement on social media.

Hollyoaks actress Gemma and Spanish dancer Gorka weren’t originally paired together as dance partners back in 2017, but a romance developed on the Strictly tour. The rest is history.

The pair welcomed their first child, Mia, in May 2019. Gemma then gave birth to their second child, Thiago, in July 2023. The pair have been engaged for several years.
