‘I am a huge Strictly Come Dancing fan – and the show needs to make a major change’

is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

The BBC show has been a staple on our screens for two decades, bringing the glitz and glam to every Saturday and Sunday night as the winter approaches. Nothing spells the start of Christmas like Strictly live from Blackpool’s iconic Tower Ballroom.

This year, the Strictly competition has been closer than ever. With just a few weeks left, any of the remaining contestants could take the crown.

Some are natural born dancers like Love Island star whilst others may not be dancers, but they’ve made huge strides since they first signed up several months ago.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding last week’s dance-off, which saw Gladiator Montell once again in the bottom two whilst star also found himself in the bottom two.

In the end, Jamie was sent home – with fans (and myself!) devastated to see such a talented dancer leave the show. Jamie’s shock exit had me thinking: Strictly needs a revamp – and the voting system is the first thing that needs changing.

It’s difficult to see such a good dancer like Jamie leave the competition, but Montell was equally good and deserved to stay. Whilst many might think it’s time for to go, he is obviously favoured by both the judges and the voting public.

I really think Strictly needs to make a change with the voting. The judges give their verdicts at the end of each dance, and give their vote based on the performance they see, but how can their vote be relative to the performances they haven’t seen yet?

Strictly fans have regularly referred to the first slot on each live show as the ‘death slot’ – with them convinced it is the show’s bosses way of trying to get someone out of the competition.

But with the voting being split between both the judges and the public, surely that won’t happen? We have seen some great dancers leave over the years after landing in the ‘death slot’.

Maybe it’s time bosses make some changes to the voting system to just make it public voted. Surely then, this would mean the show carries on for another 20 years to come!

airs every weekend on One and iPlayer.
