The sister of 18-year-old Joseph Maku posted on Facebook that his body was found in Delta.
A Surrey teenager reported missing Oct. 22 has been found dead in Delta, according to his family.
In a Facebook post, Brenda Maku, the sister of 18-year-old Joseph Maku, said they learned Friday from police that he had been dead since the day they reported him missing.
“The cause of death is still under investigation by the B.C. Coroners Service, the investigation is still ongoing, and it will be long before we know how my brother passed away. Until then, we will remain shocked that my brother is no longer here to shine a light on us all,” she wrote in the post.
“We know that everyone probably has questions but we have no further answers beyond the information we received today.”
Postmedia has asked the B.C. Coroner for confirmation. Delta police said the department was not part of the investigation and referred calls to the Surrey Police Service.
Surrey police are not yet confirming the death.
In an email, Surrey police spokesperson Ian MacDonald said the missing persons investigation has not yet concluded and that they hope to provide additional information soon.
Family and friends searched for weeks after he was last seen in the 9600-block of 130th Street on Oct. 22.
Investigators said he boarded a number of transit buses on that day between 3:50 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., mainly between 120th Street and King George Boulevard.
