A lorry fire has sparked travel chaos during rush hour on the M11 in Cambridgeshire this morning.
Emergency serivces including police and firefighters have rushed to the scene on the major motorway beween Junction 11 and Junction 12.
It is not currently known whether there have been any injuries as a result of the incident.
A spokesperson for South Cambs Police wrote on X: “M11 Junction 11 northbound closed following a lorry fire. The road will remain closed whilst emergency services deal with the incident and the road surface is cleaned. Please use alternative routes and expect delays.!
A post on the National Highways website adds: “The M11 northbound is closed between J11 Westfield Interchange ((Cambridge (S) A1309; Harston A10) and J12 Haggis Farm Interchange (Cambridge, Sandy A603) due to a lorry fire earlier.
“Cambridgeshire Police, Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue and National Highways Traffic Officers are attending.
“This is closure is causing delays of at least 60 minutes.”

60-minute delays during rush hour
There are still delays of around one hour on the M11 in Cambridgeshire this morning, due to a clean-up operation after an earlier vehicle fire.

National Highways issues diversion route
Advice from National Highways has urged motorists to “follow the route marked with a hollow circle symbol on local road signs”.
The diversion route is as follows:
Exit at J11 and at the roundabout take the first exit on to the A10
Follow the A10 through Harston, Melbourn to Royston
At the roundabout with the A505 take the third exit
Head west on to the A505 to the next roundabout with the A1198
Take the third exit on to the A1198
Follow the A1189 through Kneesworth and Whaddon Gap
At the roundabout with the A603 take the third exit
Follow the A603 eastbound through New Wimpole and Barton to J12 of the M11
At the first junction roundabout take the first exit to re-join the M11 northbound
They added: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”

The incident happened on the M11 northbound between the Westfield Interchange (junction 11) and the Haggis Farm Interchange (Junction 12)
