Jason Donovan in Rocky Horror Show
Jason Donovan has apologised to fans who flocked to Blackpool for his Rocky Horror Picture Show musical … only to discover he was not performing.
The Australian actor and singer, 56, has been touring the UK in the fun-filled musical playing the lead role of Frank-N-Furter as the show visited Blackpool’s Winter Gardens last Saturday 23rd November.
Although it was made clear on advertising Donovan would not appear that night, dozens of fans were unaware and spoke out to the afterwards of their shock, anger and upset.
Now the ex-Neighbours star has reached out to his fans to correct part of the “misleading” article but also issue to full apology for disappointing his legion of fans who had hoped to see him at the Lancashire resort.
Earlier this week the published an article about the fans anger at Donovan not performing, titled “Fans fume over Jason Donovan Rocky Horror no-show.”

But on Donovan’ now hit back saying of the story: “While the article itself is more balanced, the headline is misleading.
“I was never scheduled to perform on Saturday 23rd — I had a prior commitment that had been pre-agreed with the producers.
“This was noted on Rocky Horror’s official website and the venue’s website before last week’s performances.
“To the dedicated fans who came to see me and were disappointed; I am truly sorry. Your support means the world to me, and I am committed to showing up for you. Thank you all for your understanding and continued support.”
The has since amended the original headline to correctly reflect the situation: “Fans fume at missing Jason Donovan in Rocky Horror.”
Donovan reprised his role of the mad transvestite scientist, Frank-N-Furter, on the UK tour, following a sold-out Australian tour earlier this year. Lauren Chia and Connor Carson also feature in the production as Janet and Brad.

Before beginning his career in pop music, and later West End musicals, Donovan shot to fame starring alongside Kylie Minogue in the Australian soap opera Neighbours.
The star, who recorded hits such as Too Many Broken Hearts and Especially For You, had arranged in advance not to perform the Blackpool show due to a prior commitment.
But Lucie Robertson, of Lytham, Lancs, was shattered when she found out at the theatre on arrival that he was not there, adding it was “a good show, and it’s no reflection on the cast we did see, but we never would have paid to go if it wasn’t for Jason”.
“He’s who we wanted to see. They got us there under false pretences,” she added.
The council-owned Blackpool venue said the event webpage and associated ticketing site “clearly stated from the time of sale that Jason Donovan would not appear during Saturday performances”.
“This information was available to all prospective ticket buyers, and we advise all customers to review event details carefully before completing a purchase.”
