You can get your cutlery looking as good as new (Stock Image)
How your cutlery looks can say a lot about you, so you’ll want to ensure that it’s shining and looking as good as new whether you’ve got guests around or are just eating with immediate members.
One woman shared that “the best thing she learned” from her grandmother was a “kitchen hack to clean cutlery”, which Karolina shared on so others could clean theirs in the same way.
First, you’ll need to get a pan of boiling water, ideally three litres, and “dissolve five tablespoons of white vinegar” in it.
Next up is “four tablespoons of baking soda” – but be warned, as this causes a reaction, so make sure your pan is big enough to allow for the water to fizz up without going over the edge.
Karolina warned that you should “add baking soda very carefully” as the mixture will go very bubbly.

She then added some pieces of aluminium foil into the mixture, and all the ingredients together are bound to create a cutlery set that looks like you’ve just purchased it.
Karolina instructed: “Bring the mixture to the boil, then reduce the heat and add the cutlery.
“After about ten minutes, rinse them in lukewarm water and polish them with a dry cloth.” She then commented on “how shiny” the cutlery looked after it had been cleaned.
But why does it work? It’s thanks to a chemical reaction that occurs between the vinegar and baking soda, while the aluminium foil acts as a conductor, transferring electrons to the tarnish on the silver, effectively removing it and leaving a shiny surface behind.
This means that you won’t have to faff around trying to find brand-new cutlery that you like as much as what you already have.
In the comments, people were really impressed with how the cutlery came out of the mixture, sharing comments like: “Wow, love that! Saving this.”
