One of the UK’s busiest is getting brand new £1bn trains.

South Western Railway (SWR) says commuters will be able to enjoy more reliable and less interrupted journeys because of the new .

The carriages will even be air-conditioned. The stock was tested in January ahead of a phased rollout of the full 90 train fleet.

Officials said at the time that the stock would be introduced on one route at a time as the year progressed.

SWR services run on lines to and from London, including terminating at Portsmouth, the Isle of White, Weymouth, Exeter, Reading and Windsor.

The new trains are serving some of the country’s busiest stations, such as London Waterloo.

Currently, the first five Arterio trains are in service. These are serving key stations on SWR’s suburban network, including Clapham Junction, Feltham, Hounslow, Kingston, Richmond, Shepperton, Staines, Twickenham, Vauxhall, Wimbledon and Windsor and Eton Riverside.

SWR says: “We’re looking forward to introducing more Arterios, and sharing our wider rollout plan, in due course.”

In November, it was announced that Arterio will soon serve stations to Chessington South, Dorking, Epsom, Guildford, Hampton Court and Reading.

Officials say the fleet will provide more capacity and better performance. On carriages, there will also be accessible toilets, Wi-Fi, charging points and air conditioning.

In addition, the stock is walk-through.
