has been backed to exclude and from his strongest team in the long term. Former Red Devils winger Lee Sharpe has laid out who he believes will feature in Amorim’s first-choice starting lineup on the other side of the squad’s adaption period at the dawn of his reign.

The Portuguese head coach has confirmed that there won’t be a short supply of rotation in the early stages of his tenure at Old Trafford.

However, his ultimate goal will involve finding a go-to team capable of thriving in his 3-4-3 system for the remainder of the season and beyond.

Ahead of Andre Onana in goal, Sharpe wants to see and Lisandro Martinez as stalwarts in Amorim’s back three.

But he has left the right-centre-back position up for debate after being impressed by Noussair Mazraoui’s performance in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town.

“I think the three centre-backs sort of pick themselves, as they’re the newest,” Lee Sharpe told Express Sport with Racing Tipster.

“I think you’ve got to have Lisandro Martinez on the left because he can go out and play left-back.

“I think Matthis de Ligt should be in the middle. He looked pretty solid last night, although he did get bullied a few times by Liam Delap, who I think is a terrific player.

“And then either Leny Yoro or Noussair Mazraoui on the right. I thought Mazraoui was exceptional when he played as a centre-back against Ipswich.”

After suggesting Mazraoui could become a permanent centre-back solution, Sharpe dropped his second bombshell by removing Dalot from the picture entirely.

Amorim’s Portuguese compatriot was ‘s third-most-used player at Old Trafford and started at left-wing-back at Portman Road.

However, Sharpe believes United will be better served by using a fully fit Luke Shaw on the left, while persisting with Amad as the right-wing-back.

He continued: “I’ve always had questions over Diogo Dalot. I think he’s always been half-decent going forward, but he gives the ball away cheaply.

“So I think you’d probably look at Luke Shaw playing left-wing-back and Amad playing right-wing-back like he did against Ipswich. I thought he did a good job there at the first time of asking.

“In central midfield, I think you’re probably looking at Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo in the long-term.

Sharpe also didn’t include Rashford in his strongest team, believing best fits Amorim’s demands ahead of captain and Alejandro Garnacho.

“And then and Alejandro Garnacho behind , I think would probably be the way we’d suit it,” Sharpe concluded.

“Maybe Joshua Zirkzee instead of Garnacho behind Hojlund and possibly Marcus Rashford up front if he starts coming good.”
