I got £61 from Currys with one phone call thanks to Black Friday price promise

It’s the time of year where Christmas shopping meets Black Friday deals and there’s savings, offers, deals and discounts absolutely everywhere – and it can even get a bit much.

I don’t know if it’s the years of watching or just me being a tight Yorkshireman, but I’m an anxious shopper. Any purchase is made with about 100 tabs open at different retailers, searching for the perfect price, as well as discount codes, sign up offers, cashback, extra points, you name it.

So when I logged onto to do a bit of shopping and saw that the PS5 I just bought two days ago had been price dropped by £61, I panicked. £61 down the drain because I couldn’t wait two days. Fuming.

Fortunately, there’s a little known price match offer buried on its website and in my urgency to recover from my impatient spending, I hastened to put it to the test.

Currys’ website says about its price promise: “Found it cheaper? We’ll match it. We’ll price match against any other UK retailer, online or in-store.

“Price match before or after you buy. We’ll even price match 7 days after your purchase! If you see the same item cheaper elsewhere, we’ll refund the difference.

“If we lower the price of our eligible deals before 2nd December, you can claim a refund for the price difference. Savings, guaranteed.

“Valid for purchases from 30th October. Claim by 9th December.”

I called up Currys’ customer service and quoted the price promise to the customer service team.

After checking my order number, she saw that I had bought a PS5 for £460 on Wednesday, and the price had dropped to £399 on Friday. In my defence, the original price was already lower than RRP and this was a full week before Black Friday, so I hadn’t banked on it dropping lower.

She immediately issued a refund of £61 onto a gift card, and two days later, the card arrived in the post – flawless customer service.

The price match stretches all the way back to October 30, so if you’ve bought anything from Currys in the past month, check the price now, and if it’s cheaper in the Black Friday sales, or at any time before December 9, get your money back.
