Frank Lampard named new Coventry boss as he lands first job in 17 months

have officially confirmed the appointment of as their new manager, with the legend back in the dugout for the first time in 17 months.He replaces Mark Robins, who had been the longest-serving boss in the EFL .Lampard had been out of management since leaving his interim role at in the summer of 2023. Prior to joining Coventry, it was reported that he was keen to resume his coaching career if the right opportunity presented itself.

Lampard has previous experience of managing in the Championship, having led Derby County to the play-off final in 2019 before leaving to take charge of on a permanent basis, where he lasted 18 months.

Coventry City owner and executive chairman Doug King said: “I am delighted that Frank Lampard has agreed to join our club as head coach.

“Frank cut his teeth in the Championship and knows what is needed in this league to be successful.

“His experiences thereafter at and Everton will ensure he brings to our talented squad clear understanding of exactly what is needed to succeed at the very top level that we as a Club are striving to reach.”

After spending a year away from the touchline, the 46-year-old joined Everton and guided them to survival at the end of his first season. He was sacked midway through the following campaign amid a run of poor results.Lampard returned to after Graham Potter was sacked, taking the reins on a temporary basis until the end of the 2022/23 season. He achieved just one win from his 11 matches in charge as the Blues slumped to a bottom-half finish.He was recently linked with the Roma job following Ivan Juric’s dismissal earlier this month, but the Italian giants went on to appoint former Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri.Lampard will be hoping to restore his managerial credentials with a positive spell in charge of Coventry, who currently sit 17th in the Championship table after winning just four of their opening 17 matches.
