Canucks’ Filip Hronek reportedly ‘out a while’ with an injury

The Vancouver Canucks defenceman hit the end boards awkwardly late in Wednesday’s loss to the Penguins and appears to have suffered an injury.

According to a tweet from Nation Network’s Irfaan Gaffar, Hronek “is going to be out a while with an upper body injury.”

It’s not expected he’ll need surgery, Gaffar added.

Hronek fell awkwardly into the end boards, appearing to take the brunt of the impact on the back of his right shoulder.

He was seen grimacing in pain, as he falls to the ice.

As the game finished, he skated back to the bench in obvious agony.

Vincent Desharnais is the only extra defenceman on the roster right now and he was dealing with an injury before the Canucks left on their eastern road trip last week.

In the short term the two obvious call-ups from Abbotsford are Mark Friedman and Cole McWard.

More to come …
