Now streaming for subscribers at no extra cost, the new conspiracy drama has been described as “addictive” with critics saying it “gets better and better” with each episode.
Starring Colman Domingo, who recently scored an Oscar nomination for his performance in the film Rustin, the series follows progressive CNN media pundit Muncie Daniels who’s caught up in a murder investigation when he finds the brutalised body of a white supremacist.
He soon finds himself in the sights of local police, the victim’s legion of far-right followers and even the FBI when he’s pinned to the crime.
In order to survive, Muncie must reconnect with his estranged family all while peeling back the layers of a vast conspiracy.

The Guardian gave the series four stars and maintained the “slick, smart conspiracy thriller gets better and better” with each episode.
They write: “As well as being smartly plotted and expertly paced, The Madness has a subtle but great line in showing how Muncie must navigate the traditional tropes as a Black man (police scepticism, approaching strangers for information, or simply being out and about in certain neighbourhoods).
“All the constraints an Everyman at the centre of a conspiracy thriller normally operates under are given extra, inescapable torque and the tension builds accordingly.”

FandomWire called The Madness an “exquisite cat and mouse thriller” in their write-up.
“The Madness is a strong political, psychological chess match worthy of a binge,” they said.
Collider also raved about the series, calling it an “excellent, twisty thriller” that’s primarily “a showcase of Colman Domingo’s powerful screen presence.”
“The Madness successfully balances competing and evolving interests, as well as twists and turns, without becoming convoluted, although slight adjustments could amplify the story’s overall impact,” the review continues.
“As a whole, however, The Madness offers plenty of thrills, anchored by a believable, twisty conspiracy with real stakes.”
This gripping thriller will have you addicted from the very first episode
And The Telegraph also gave the show four stars, penning: “’s paranoid drama covers familiar hot-button issues, but is instantly addictive.”
The Reporter was a little more lukewarm on the series as a whole, but agree it’s still a must-watch to see Domingo reach “stratospheric new levels of cool”.
“The series is a pure star vehicle for Domingo,” they write, “as if people had sat in a room and brainstormed cool things Colman Domingo could do, cool things Colman Domingo could say and cool things Colman Domingo could wear, and then turned Colman Domingo loose to elevate its level of cool even further.
“There’s an underlying giddiness in almost every frame at this being a thing that the hard-working Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated star gets to do. And with its premiere date falling on his 55th birthday, it’s a heck of a gift for an actor who has surely earned this showcase.”
