Luke Littler has expressed doubt that he may be able to topple ’s record of 16 titles. Since exploding into the darting spotlight at Ally Pally earlier this year, Littler has risen to world no.4 and is now among the favourites for each and every tournament.

A and Grand Slam of Darts title has already been claimed by The Nuke in his fledgling career, and the fast-approaching world’s will be eyed up with great interest.

“Yeah, people are going on. Been talking about Phil Taylor’s record of 16 world titles, and that is a lot to beat,” Littler stated on talkSPORT. “So if I’m in the game for long enough, maybe. But I can’t see myself winning 16.

“I want to win every major title once – tick everything off. So, the and Grand Slam are already ticked off in my first year.

“If you look back at darts a few years back, it was just looking at number one and number two. Now you can have a 100-ranked player beating the world’s best. It’s just that darts is so tough. Even when I lose a game, it’s all over, and it’s just like, he’s a professional, just like me.

“All year round, it’s been tough. When you’re playing well, you do back yourself to win most of the time, but like footballers, you have setbacks. With darts, there’s just so much going on, so if you lose a game, you can always bounce back.”

The topic of Littler toppling Taylor’s title tally was brought to the forefront by the man Littler put to the sword in the Grand Slam final, Martin Lukeman. He backed the youngster to give breaking the record a good go.

“If he gets his head on, forget about Michael van Gerwen’s records. He’s going to beat Phil Taylor’s records,” Lukeman exclaimed after the final.

Taylor himself has commented on this possibility before, admitting to when asked about if Littler could pull off the feat: “I hope not.

“I’ll tell you what, though, if there’s anybody that could do it, it’s this young lad now. He’s got the age on his side, and he’s got the ability, so you never know, you never know.”
