Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid was visibly surprised when she exclaimed to colleague Ed Balls, “this got out of control,” following his unexpected confession about his wife.
The pair graced our screens on Wednesday (November 27) morning, delivering the latest headlines. As Christmas approached, the topic of gifting inevitably came up during a segment with co-host Charlotte Hawkins, where they debated whether it’s ever acceptable to tell someone that you dislike their gift.
Susanna, 53, adamantly advocated for politeness, emphasizing her appreciation for any present received, while Ed argued that he struggles to conceal his feelings.
Unprepared for Susanna’s viewpoint, Ed remarked, “You are so honest so I always thought you would be straight. You would say ‘I’m really sorry, thanks a lot but it’s awful.'”.
To which Susanna quickly interjected: “No I wouldn’t, I absolutely wouldn’t. I would be straight and the thing is I would be honest about the fact that I was really grateful that you had given me a present.”, reports .

She elaborated: “I think it’s pretty strange to say to someone that you didn’t like it because if someone has given you a gift it shows that they have been thinking about you.”
Ed then shared a personal anecdote about his wife Yvette Cooper’s candid reaction to an unwelcome gift he once gave her. He revealed: “I bought Yvette a dress once and she looked at me and said honestly, have you got the receipt because I’m taking it straight back.”
The atmosphere tensed as a baffled Susanna reacted: “Oh. Umm ok Christmas must be fun at your house.” Ed went on: “She said thanks for the thought but I’m never wearing that and I’ll have the receipt and take it back.”

Charlotte, unable to contain her amusement, exclaimed: “I would love to know what dress that was.” Susanna queried: “Was it the style or the size that you got wrong? “.
Ed clarified: “The sizing was 14/16 I think I can’t remember. I gabled on the size.”Susanna’s response was telling: “Umm right. You really did from what I know of Yvette.”
Wishing to steer away from the awkwardness, the TV presenter quickly segued: “Right this all got out of control.”
