Brits in some parts of the country could be waking up to -4C if the latest charts prove correct and the country is gripped by a blast of bitterly .

The mercury plummets to 0C for parts of Scotland, North Wales and Northern England overnight, with -4C in the Scottish Highlands, 0C in North Yorkshire and 1C in Northumbria by 9am on Wednesday (November 27), according to WXCharts.

Less than a centimetre worth of snow could fall per hour over parts of central Scotland, with up to 2cm per hour from Edinburgh and across the Scottish Borders by midday on Wednesday.

Any snow will have cleared by 9pm with much of the UK seeing a clear night, with no rain appearing on WXCharts’ maps until Thursday evening (November 28).

Snow depth maps from WX Charts show up to 2cm on the ground across central Scotland on Wednesday, but this gradually clears as the week progresses.

spokesperson Andrea Bishop told Express.co.uk: “An area of low pressure is expected to reach parts of southern England overnight on Tuesday, becoming persistent and heavy in places for a time.

” has been issued across parts of southern England. Much of the warning area will see 15-20 mm of rain, with 30-40 mm in some areas.

“There is a lower chance of 50mm of rain in a few places, more likely for the Isle of Wight, Sussex and Kent, before rain eases and clears by early afternoon. Given recent wet weather, some disruption to travel and infrastructure is likely.

“Some of this precipitation may fall as sleet or snow on its northern flank for a time, but we don’t expect to see it settle or have any impacts.

“With temperatures dipping to below average, parts of Northern Ireland, northern England and southern Scotland may see some freezing fog and patchy ice locally tomorrow morning.”

The latest forecast comes after , leaving hundreds of homes under water, roads turned into rivers and winds of more than 80mph recorded across parts of the UK.

Environment Secretary Steve Reed said on Tuesday that more flooding is likely over the next few days as water levels rise in slower flowing rivers such as the Severn and the Ouse.

Communities in England and Wales have been engaged in a “massive clean-up” after the widespread flooding.

Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Mike Silverstone, said: “Along with the rain, things will turn colder from Wednesday for all, with frost and some freezing fog possible.

“Overnight temperatures could dip to minus 4C to minus 6C in places prone to frost.”
