The late Queen Elizabeth allowed Princess Kate to borrow her Maple Leaf Brooch
It is no secret that was fond of and often lent her jewellery when attending public engagements. Over the years, the former monarch in becoming the perfect Queen in waiting.
The late 96-year-old, , often donned stunning ensembles. She not only became known unique fashion sense which saw her follow protocol, but also for her love of jewellery.
Back in 1901, determined that the brooches were heirlooms of the crown that pass directly down the line of monarchs, only to be worm by queens or royal consorts. It is reported that over her 70-year reign, she acquired more than 300.
It has been reported that she would never buy one for the sake of it, as it has been said that they all have special meanings behind them. Others have also said that on the day of an event, she would select a brooch to also serve as a message of support to other members of the royal family who she stepped out alongside.
One of her favourite pieces to date which is kept under lock and key in the royal vault is her Canadian brooch. Asprey of London created the bespoke piece which was originally purchased for her mother over half a century ago.

Queen Elizabeth II last wore the Diamond Maple Leaf Brooch in October 2021, she pinned it to her wool sweater while meeting members of the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery at Windsor Castle.
