Announcing their decision to step down as senior working royals, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in an announcement in January 2020, a part of which read:

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.

“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”

Since their departure, their relationship with the Firm has been strained, in part thanks to Harry and Meghan’s attacks on the Firm from their bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview to Harry’s memoir Spare and the couple’s own Netflic documentary.

But now the couple appear to be going from strength to strength, with the pair now taking on solo engagements as they forge their own paths professionally, while cherishing time spent together at home with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet in Montecito, California.
