A tattooed vegan fugitive who has been on the FBI’s most wanted terrorist list for more than 20 years has been caught in North Wales, the US agency has announced.

Daniel Andreas San Diego, 46, was wanted in connection with two animal rights-related bombings in the San Francisco area in 2003. He was later put on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list in 2009.

The UK National Crime Agency (NCA) said it arrested San Diego in the Conwy area of Wales on Monday.

In a statement announcing the fugitive’s arrest, FBI Director Christopher Wray said: “Daniel San Diego’s arrest after more than 20 years as a fugitive for two bombings in the San Francisco area shows that no matter how long it takes, the FBI will find you and hold you accountable.

“There’s a right way and a wrong way to express your views in our country, and turning to violence and destruction of property is not the right way.”

According, San Diego allegedly planted two bombs at the offices of Chiron Inc, in Emeryville, California, in August 2003.

The first bomb detonated early in the morning and the second was timed to go off an hour after the first blast, a tactic the FBI said could have been meant to kill or injure first responders. The second bomb was found and cleared before it could go off.

A month later he allegedly planted another device wrapped in nails which failed to go off at a company in Pleasanton, also in California.

The American law enforcement body also added that San Diego was known to carry a gun and that he should be “considered armed and dangerous”.
