David Baddiel has hit out at acclaimed actor Michael Caine after he voiced his support for a petition demanding a new general election in the UK.
Taking to X, the English comedian reacted after the 91 year old actor openly supported the new petition, which has seen over 1.9 million signatures.
The petition, launched by pub owner Michael Westwood, has gained considerable media attention and even the likes of have reposted it on X.
David reacted online by saying: “I note that because Michael Caine has voiced his support for that shit petition, people on here have started saying he’s a s**t actor. These things do not follow. It is possible not to think of people in immovable weighty blocks of good and bad.”
With over 100,000 signatures, the petition now qualifies for parliamentary debate and reflects the public’s growing dissatisfaction with the current Labour governmenr and Sir .

Many of David’s followers flocked to the comments section, with many agreeing with the comedian. One person typed: “Absolutely. We should be able to agree and disagree with people about lots of things, and still appreciate their work. It would be a dull dystopia where this was not the case.”
A second person also said: “I love Michael Caine as an actor; Get Carter is one of my favourite films and he’s brilliant in it. I disagree with him vehemently on politics. He bases his politics on tax avoidance but, a service based economy like ours can’t generate money any other way. He’s naive at best.”

A third also said: “He’s a lovely man. I met him, randomly, in a supermarket in London. Shook my hand and wished me a happy Christmas. Said the checkout lady I’d met him. “Oh, ‘e’s lovely, in ‘ere all the time! You should meet his Missus – she’s even nicer!””.
A fourth also chimed in: “Absolutely! Michael Caine supported (to me, a very silly idea), yet he remains one of the best actors I can think of. Also, a very interesting human being, as his life’s story suggests.”
Michael openly backed the petition on social media and posted a link to his X account, which he typed alongside it: “Call a General Election – Petitions.”
