Sally Nugent was quick to offer her support to co-star Jon Kay as he made a confession about his childhood. The duo returned to our TV screens on Tuesday morning, presenting the day’s top stories from the iconic red sofa.
During one segment, they were joined by sports reporter John Watson, who discussed the recent news that English cricketer James Anderson went unsold in the Indian auction.
The 42-year-old was available for around £10,000, but none of the ten teams were tempted to take on the player.
Meanwhile, teenager Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history by becoming the youngest player to secure a deal. He was sold to the Rajasthan Royals for 11 million rupees (around £104,000).
He recently made headlines when he scored a 58-ball hundred for India Under-19s against Australia U19s in an unofficial Test in Chennai.
BBC Breakfast Sally Nugent and Jon Kay presented Tuesday’s show
John explained: “It’s amazing how the youngest player in the auction has been bought yet all that experience that James Anderson has – no one fancied him.”
Jon was shocked as he asked: “13?” John confirmed: “Yes 13 and he is obviously a hugely talented player but even that, with that kind of reputation he has at such a young age, to be paying that much for a 13-year-old does seem crazy.”
Sally quickly pointed out: “Can I just say James Anderson – I feel a little bit sorry for him. It’s kind of like being in school when you’re the last one to be picked and you’re just standing there and no one wants you.”
Jon joked: “I wouldn’t know Sal.” Sally burst out laughing as she said: “Well I would. It’s quite sad.”
Don’t miss…
Sally asked Jon is he was ok after a confession
Jon made a confession as he jumped in and said: “You’re giving me flashbacks now, Sal,” as his co-star issued an apology, she replied: “Sorry, you alright now though? It’s ok.”
“Yeah I’m over it,” Jon said: “I’ll be fine.” Sally reassured her co-host: “You are fine, you’ve done ok.”
Turning her attention to weather presenter , who was on hand to present her usual weather segment, Sally said: “Let’s go straight to Carol, who is doing more than ok because I bet she was always picked.” Carol chuckled as she admitted: “No, I was always picked last.”
