The Lions were never going to be able to keep both Adams and fellow pivot Nathan Rourke next season due to salary cap constraints. On Tuesday morning, B.C. shipped Adams to the Calgary Stampeders for three CFL draft picks — Calgary’s 2025 second rounder (No. 9 overall), 2025 fourth rounder (No. 29 overall) and their 2026 second rounder.
As part of the deal, Calgary also receives B.C.’s 2025 fourth round pick (No. 32) and a 2026 third rounder.
“On behalf of the entire organization, I thank Vernon for his outstanding work and professionalism on and off the field these past three years,” general manager Ryan Rigmaiden said in a news release.
“As we continue to build this roster for next year and beyond, we’re excited for the opportunity to acquire more draft picks. Canadian draft picks are the lifeblood of a club’s championship aspirations.”
“We’re going to start those conversations tonight. I’ll start reaching out to some teams,” Rigmaiden said. “Again, I’m not a timeline guy. I want to make the best decision for the club and so I’m never going to throw out an arbitrary date to say we’d like to do this. But we’d like to do it sooner than later, out of respect to both him and the club, just so everybody knows what they’re doing. We’ll see what the market shakes out.”
