Washing machine compartment gets rid of ‘really tough stains’ as people using it ‘wrong’

experts have weighed in on the correct way to use washing machines, specifically one compartment we all use.

Every machine has a drawer for different washing aids, but some people may be using it wrong.

The drawer usually has three different compartments for the aids, such as detergents and fabric softeners.

However, it’s important to make sure to add the correct product into each compartment.

Experts at Which? shared an important rundown about the different sections in a washing machine drawers and which products should be added to each.

In a video uploaded to , they said: “Are you using your washing machine wrong? Many machines will have three compartments in the detergent drawer.

“Many machines will have three compartments in the detergent drawer. The biggest slot is for your regular washing detergent, either liquid or powder.”

The experts pointed out that this section may also have a flap, which if you’re using liquid, should be “flicked down”. In others, you may have to manually slot it in.

The second largest compartment is for pre-wash detergent, which, according to the experts, is used for clothes with “really tough stains” that won’t be banished with one standard wash.

Which? said: “Normal detergent should work if you don’t have any pre-wash or stain remover to hand.”

Lastly, the smallest section of the washing machine drawer is for your fabric softener.

Which? explained: “It’s worth mentioning that with auto dose machines, you’ll also have an auto dose drawer. This can hold enough detergent and softener for multiple washes and will release the amount you need every time.”

You can use a toothbrush to clean, as it’s really effective at removing tough deposits and getting into the harder to reach spots.

You should always make sure the drawer is dry before placing it back into the machine.
