The country is set to face another stormy spell as large amounts of rainfall will hit the UK next month.

Weather maps from WXCharts show a large swathe of rain and snow heading to the UK on December 7 following the wintery conditions brought by Storm Bert.

The north of England will be the worst affected area with up to 5 millimeters of rainfall per hour hitting Newcastle and surrounding towns, stretching up to southern Scotland too.

Brits in the North West of England will also face 5 millimeters of snowfall per hour, plunging areas of Cumbria into deep shades of purple.

Manchester will be hit with the heavy showers too on Saturday 7 which will begin at around 6am. However, the majority of the midlands, Wales and Northern Ireland will remain dry for the first part of the day.

Regions in the southwest of England, including Cornwall, can also expect wetter conditions that weekend, with patches of blue surrounding the southernmost area of the country.

Prior to this, the has predicted the first week of December to be ‘mainly dry’ with some sunny spells. Despite this, colder temperatures will sweep the country with figures dropping rapidly in the southeast due to high pressure.

Rainfall will edge further to the east bringing in short spells of rain before the storm on Saturday 7 as high pressure re-asserts itself close to or over the UK through early December.

Later into the Christmas period conditions are predicted to be largely settled with high pressure close to, if not over, the UK. Although, as we move towards mid-December, there are signs that it will become less settled.

The UK can expect wetter and windier interludes with a risk of some snow in the period of December 10 to 24 – especially in the north of England.

These conditions may prevail into late December, although drier, more settled spells may also affect the UK at times, these probably more likely towards the south.

Met Office long-range forecast – November 30 to December 9

Mainly dry with some clear or sunny spells but rather cold towards the southeast at first as high pressure over the continent extends its influence here.

Cloudier, windier and milder in the north and west with some outbreaks of rain. Early next week, it looks like the rain in the west will edge further east, bringing a short spell of rain to the east. High pressure may then re-assert itself close to or over the UK through early December.

The largely dry, settled theme may be punctuated by brief unsettled spells though with areas of low pressure possibly crossing the UK, bringing some spells of wind and rain. Temperatures generally near average, but some overnight frost is likely, and rather cold by day where any fog persists.
